The efforts of the Friends of the Sedalia Trust (FROST) were recognized by Missouri Preservation at a ceremony in the rotunda of the State Capitol April 27, 2017.  The Trust Building was one of eight Missouri structures receiving a Preserve Missouri Award which "recognizes outstanding efforts and projects (that) illustrate the diversity of historic preservation issues".
FROST members, Aric Snyder and Meg Liston, thanked Missouri Preservation for the recognition and expressed hope the award gives further notice to the building's historic status and availability to prospective developers.

Following over a year of stabilization work, the interior of the Trust Building was again littered with debris.  On January 28, 2018, volunteers once again showed up to clean house.   Thanks to these volunteers, the building is much tidier and safer to navigate.
The Friends of the Sedalia Trust thank all those who helped out.  They are:  Kathryn Ki, Mark Kimbrell, Mary Todd, Lori Williams, Elaine Knedgen, Malleri Hiller, Ruby Meyer, Elizabeth Greer, Scott Greer, Dave Werths, Cynthia Werths, Tanner Edwards, Junebug & boys, George Bain III & Little George.  Also Christopher Smethers, Aric Snyder, John Smith, John Simmons, and Meg Liston.

Since 2014, much has been done to stabilize the Trust Building and thus preserve it until a new owner is able to do a complete renovation.   Some of the completed work includes:
  • Interior demoliton and debris removal
  • Pest control
  • Conservation of stone on the Ohio and Fourth Street facades
  • Demolition and replacement of the building's northern wall
  • Window repairs
  • Gutter installation
  • Removal of metal canopy
  • Stabilization of the building immediately north, damaged by debris falling from the north wall

Volunteers Clean out Trust Building

5/16/2015

The Friends of the Sedalia Trust Building (FROST) organized a cleanup day for the four story building in historic Downtown Sedalia.  In addition to its own representatives and their friends, eight airmen from Whiteman Air Force Base (WAFB)  pitched in to rid debris through chutes and dumpsters donated by Ditzfeld Container Service of Sedalia.
FROST is engaged in a nationwide search for an owner/developer who can benefit from Federal and State tax credits applicable for certified rehabilitation work on the building, listed individually and as part of the Downtown Commercial District on the National Register of Historic Places.
Removing the debris makes it safer to walk through the building and easier to see the building’s “bones”.   Damaged by fire in 1997, the Trust Building has been essentially mothballed.   But broken windows, vandalism and decay have taken a toll.   Thanks to the efforts of FROST, windows have been addressed, the building secured,  and efforts to repair the north wall and damaged turret on the 4th Street façade are proceeding.  Thanks to the volunteers who helped out May 2, 2015.

FROST Volunteers: Aric Snyder, John Simmons, David Esser, Meg Liston, Chad Freed, Josh Rhoads, John Swords, Wayne Rhoads, Rick Pettit.    WAFB Volunteers: Emilia Martin, Melissa Spoon,  Justin Nutter, Derrick Russell, Donovan Garrett, Arlando Budd, Stephanie Nieves, Dennis Silver.
